I was going to phone in the weekly rant. Thought i would just go through the hard drive and find the rant I posted about a few years back about Black history Month. Let me just give you the gist. Why??? Because I have a new rant.
Years ago I was dating a famous female illusionist. She and I were just shooting the breeze over a meal. I was reminded that as a minority I understand what it is like to be discriminated against. Never will I understand what it is like to be a double minority. Let's face it gay black men have it pretty tough. At that point she looked down at her tray and there was a place-mat commemorating black history month. At this point she decided to make her point very vocally in the middle of a crowded and busy restaurant. "This is exactly what I am Talking about! I don't identify with any of the ni**ers on this! We are fighting for equal rights. You get that. Where are the ni**er fagots? People like Bayard Rustin and Langston Hughes? NOT HERE!!! WHY IS THAT?!?! Because they will smile to our faces but deep down they are scared shitless of us. ALL of us!" Couldn't agree more. I have no problem with Black History Month. I just feel they need to diversify it and include more Americans of African decent.
Have you heard the remake of We Are The World? If you have and you liked it, skip down to the videos and watch it again. Let me educate first. in 1984 Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson wrote the song in hopes of recording it. Then Michael had a brilliant idea. Get many famous people together and record the song. Then donate all the profits. It was a ground breaking concept. The song sold millions. Gobs of money were sent to aide Africa. It worked because it felt like a true coming together for a noble cause. When you achieve that feeling you have succeeded. It's what made Hands Across America work.
Over the years there have been a lot of charity shows with the same format. Willie got some of his famous friends together in Austin and they raised money for the Tsunami. The money form that concert and the sales of its cds went along way to helping rebuild. In times of crisis we come together and help one another.
Lionel Ritchie has wanted to remake We Are The World several times over the years for various causes and each time Michael said no. It would demean the original. Now Michael is dead. Lionel has presented to the world an aborted steaming pile of feces. I have my opinion. What is my opinion?
So glad you asked. I HATE Justin Bieber, his voice is always enhanced and it sounds like shit. Rappers are not singers. The detract from the harmony of the song. The original has this astounding quality. Especially for the time. There is this overwhelming meshing of all the things that make beautiful music. This time they didn't ever find it. Celine is overdubbed. Barbara is pitchy. the only person in the whole song who sound s good and honest is Josh Groban and I am not a fan of his. This remake like most remakes is an abortion. I sincerely hope they raise a ton of cash. one of those dollars will not be from me.
Here is where I will let you decide. Which of these two videos do you prefer?
The 2010 Remake
